Q:  How is Assure® different from other digestive supplements?

A: Assure was developed by a practicing veterinarian to solve the common digestive problems he faced in daily practice. This formulation was so successful in addressing GI challenges like colic, diarrhea, chronic loose stool and poor body condition that it became the foundation of our Assure System products. Assure contains a unique, patented delivery system not available from any other digestive aid on the market. When you use Assure, you can feel confident that you’re using the best digestive supplement on the market that will actually work.

Q:  Some supplements have more probiotics than Assure. Does that mean they’re better?

A:  More is not always better. The patented Assure formula has been extensively researched to find the most effective balance of pre and probiotics, yeast, psyllium and digestive enzymes. The microbes in other supplements are often broken down in the stomach’s acidic environment before reaching the hindgut. This results in a smaller quantity of active microbes available to address digestive concerns. Assure contains Arenus’ exclusive Gastrointestinal Stabilizing Technology (GST) which protects the microbes while travelling through the stomach and allows them to arrive safely in the hindgut to deliver maximum benefits to your horse.

Q:  Do horses like the taste of Assure?

A:  Yes, Assure is palatable. Generally, if your horse eats other supplements without issue, working Assure into their regimen won’t be a problem. If you have a picky eater then try starting with a smaller dose or adding water, vegetable oil or molasses to encourage your horse to eat their supplement.

Q:  Will my horse need to be on Assure forever?

A:  Assure is designed as a daily, maintenance program. While it can be used to address acute issues, most horse owners opt to incorporate Assure into their horse’s daily supplement regimen.

Q:  Why is it recommended to use both Assure and Assure Plus?

A:   Each of the products in the Assure System are unique and designed to work together to address digestive challenges and maintain optimal gut health. We typically recommend using both products daily for 3 - 6 weeks. This resets your horse’s digestive tract and ensures it’s functioning as efficiently as possible. After this initial period, most horse owners are able to transition to a maintenance dose of giving Assure everyday and Assure Plus for 7 consecutive days each month or 7 days every 8 - 12 weeks. The Assure System products are designed to be flexible for each horse’s lifestyle and requirements. This means that you can feed only the amount that your horse needs for a flexible, affordable digestive health solution. You may find that your horse does well with only Assure or you may want to try another Assure System program to suit your horse’s needs.

Q:  What is the shelf life of Assure and how should I store it?

A:  Even though Assure contains high volumes of live microbes, its exclusive formulation ensures stability for at least 2 years from the manufacture date if stored properly. The Assure products are meant to be stored in a cool, dry place with the bag tightly sealed and the bucket lid closed.

Q:  When feeding both Assure and Assure Plus, why is it suggested to feed them at different times?

A:  We recommend feeding the products at different times to help with the breakdown of feedstuffs and ensure that your horse receives regular doses of live microbes throughout the day. Probiotics do not reside in the hindgut for long and a reinforcement after 12 hours instead of 24 hours works best to repopulate them.

"I have two horses. One of them is a very elderly mare who is my dear friend and longtime companion. Whisper has steadily declined over the years, despite my best efforts to keep weight on. Two years ago, I really thought the end of our time together was not long off. She had chronic diarrhea and despite many vet calls her weight continued to drop. "I have an aging thoroughbred (27) that underwent colic surgery for a 6lb enterolith at age 22. I also live in an area of North Carolina called the Sandhills..need I say more? At the time of my horse’s surgery, he had only lived here for one year so I am not completely convinced that the Sandhills area caused his enterolith, however, living here now does not do his intestinal tract any favors! For the last year, he has suffered from a stream of liquid manure that completely coats his back legs, tail and butt area. I really believe that he was embarrassed by this. In addition, he smelled awful and was a constant target for flies. My belief is that he suffers from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) due to (1) his age, (2) possible scar tissue where the surgery took place (enterolith was at the junction of the large and small colon) and (3) a function of his environment.   I tried a number of remedies to no avail. One day I read about Assure and decided to give it a try. I talked to Dr. Altman at length (who developed the product) and subsequently ordered Assure. I followed the directions and started seeing good results at the end of the first month and now my horse improves daily. Some days he takes a tiny step backwards (more discharge) but most days, he has minimal discharge. "We probably keep 5-6 horses on Assure. Because we are a training facility, we have horses in and out, but I would say that is an average. We usually have 20+ horses on the place with a variety of training horses, broodmares, young horses, the stallions and of course some retirees. She had a very large ovarian tumor removed at Colorado State University and because of some complications was put on massive doses of antibiotics. "My wife and I own a 14 yr old Standardbred gelding, Red Twist. From the time Red was a yearling, he's suffered three, four, sometimes five impaction colics every year. No matter how hard we tried to carefully manage him, with small, frequent feedings, plenty of fresh water, flotation tests for sand every month and enough psyllium to fill a boxcar, we never found a way to keep him pain-free. Any stress, a snowstorm, unusually hot weather, the Super Bowl one year when Red was apparently unhappy because the Broncos weren't playing, was enough to trigger colic pain for Red, a visit from our vet, and a sleepless night for Marcia and me. When our vet recommended the Assure System, our reaction was frankly skeptical.
